What We Believe

God

God is the creator and eternal rules of the universe.  He eternally exists as three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  These three persons are co-equal and are one God without division of nature, essence, or being.

Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:26-27,
Genesis 3:22, Psalm 90:2, Matthew 28:19,
1 Peter 1:2, 2 Corinthians 13:14

Jesus

Jesus Christ is the eternal son of God, the second person of the trinity, and co-equal with God.  Jesus lived a sinless human life as fully man and fully God where offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross according to the prediction of Scripture.  He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death.  He ascended to heaven and will return again to reign as King of Kinds and Lord of Lords to judge the nations.

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the eternal third person of the trinity and equal with the Father and the Son as God.  He is present in the world to make men and women aware of their brokenness and need for Jesus Christ.  He also lives in every believer from the moment of salvation.  He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right.  The Christian seeks to live under His influence daily, having been sealed with a promise of final redemption from sin.

The Bible

The Bible is God’s word of revelation to all humanity.  It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.  It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.  Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error and to be the trusted final authority of faith and practice.

Psalm 119:105, Psalm 119:160, Psalm 12:6 Proverbs 30:5, 2 Timothy 3:16-17,
2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Timothy 1:13

Humanity

Humanity is made in the image of God, to be like him in character, and is the supreme object of God’s creation.  Although humankind has tremendous potential for good, it is marred by an attitude of disobedience towards God called sin.  Sin separates each man and woman from God.

Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Isaiah 53:6a,
Isaiah 59: 1-2, Romans 3:23

Eternity

Humanity was created to exist forever.  Each person will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation.  To be eternally separated from God is hell.  To be eternally in union with him is eternal life.  Heaven and hell are places of eternal existence.

Matthew 25:31:46, John 3:16, Romans 6:23, 1 John 2:25, 1 John 5:11-13, Revelation 20:15

 Salvation

Salvation is God’s gift to humanity of eternal life. Nothing is able to make up for sin, including both conscious self-improvement or even good works.  It is only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness that salvation frees us from sin’s penalty.

John 1:12, John 14:6, Romans 5:1, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 3:26, Titus 3:5

 Baptism

Baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.  Baptism is a public declaration of accepting Jesus Christ as Savior.  Baptism does not save, but demonstrates to the world that you have already been saved.  While baptism is not required for salvation, it is a biblical command and demonstrates your love and obedience to Christ.

Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 2:41,
Ephesians 2:8-9, Colossians 2:12

Communion

Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is an ordinance given to all believers by Jesus Christ to remember his sacrifice and to symbolize the new covenant.  The elements of bread and wine or juice are symbols of Christ’s broken body and shed blood.  Communion is not a means of salvation.  Rather, it is a shared testament of faith in the atoning work of the cross.
